Celtic Agree Terms With French Right-Back Brandon Soppy; Player Keen to Make a Move This Summer

Ange Postecoglou’s Celtic are getting ready for quite a revolution this summer after already confirming four new additions and look set to make more. According to sources, they are keen on 19-year-old right-back Brandon Soppy.

The player is currently committed to Ligue 1 side Rennes. His contract expires in the summer of 2022 in France. The transfer speculations in Glasgow indicate that the player is top on Celtic’s priority list and is open to a move to Scotland this summer.

The Frenchmen is expected to cost around £4 million despite having a higher transfer market value. Celtic have supposedly opened talks with Rennes to sign the youngster, however the two clubs remain some way apart over their valuation of the player.

He made just 12 appearances last season with Rennes after having reportedly fallen out of favour with the club. Recent activity on the players feed indicates that his time at Rennes and could possibly be set for a quick transfer to Parkhead if things proceed according to plan.

Although, the club offered a contract extension for the player, he is not convinced by the terms and is expected to leave the club this summer according to reports. Personal terms are already said to have been agreed between Celtic and the frenchman and talks underway with Rennes about the transfer fee.

Brandon Soppy is an impressive prospect for Postecoglou. The defender seems to be a perfect fit for the attack-minded formation of the Australian head coach. With Jonjoe Kenny returning to Everton, Celtic have a position that needs urgent addressing and Rennes’s Brandon Soppy seems to be the man for the job.

Soppy has been capped by France up to the Under-18 level. He believes that moving to Celtic Park will add more playing minutes to his profile. Also, the likings of the club towards the French prospects is a point of attraction.  French players such as Moussa Dembele and Odsonne Edouard had their best time with the Hoops and established themselves as influential contenders on the field and Soppy is said to be inspired by that.

Other Transfer targets for Postecoglou :

Celtic are chasing down more options in the defensive department. They have been linked with Carl Starfelt, Cameron Carter-Vickers, Ben Davies, and Mario Vuskovic. But, Brandon Soppy is the highest rated of the lot given the age of the player. The addition of Rennes player adds more momentum to the right flank and Postecoglou can shape the player in his mould and establish him as one for the future at Paradise.

The Celtic boss admits he’s on the search for new players foreseeing the Champions League qualifiers just around the corner.

“It is not an easy process at the moment. But we are pushing hard and hopefully, we will get some in the next few days. We need players in a number of positions, it’s not just one. Even looking at those who have gone from last season, purely on numbers, we need players,”

Postecoglou said.

The Glasgow giants are preparing for the friendly fixtures before the Champions League qualifiers. After paying out a goalless draw against Bristol City, they are taking on Preston on Saturday. The Champions League qualifiers are scheduled for 20th July. They will face the Danish side FC Midtjylland in the second qualifying round.

Meanwhile, the transfer operations continue in Parkhead. Postecoglou’s transfer plans seem to be on track with Celtic announcing the addition of Kyogo Furuhashi from Japanese Side Vissel Kobe making him the fourth addition to the squad this summer.

The first phase of the Scottish Premiership begins on 31 July and Celtic are taking on Hearts in their opening clash of the season.
