Rangers FC have already begun the search for a player to replace Alfredo Morelos, their 23-year-old Colombian forward. Morelos has scored 29 goals in all competitions for the club this season before the COVID-19 pandemic brought the current football season to a grinding halt.
Clubs such as Atletico Madrid, Leicester City, Inter Milan, and many others are believed to be interested in signing the Rangers FC forward. This is despite the fact that Morelos has issues with his temper, with the Colombian already been being sent off 5 times this season. Given the growing amount of interest in the forward, it has become increasingly urgent for the Rangers to scout replacements.
Rangers FC coach Steven Gerrard previously suggested that he wouldn’t sell Alfredo Morelos for £50million. However, the latest reports suggest that it would take only around €15m to sign the forward from the club.
According to reports, the club has prepared a five-man target list as possible replacements. The list includes Liverpool striker Rhian Brewster, who is currently on loan at Swansea. It would no doubt take a lot of persuasions, considering the future looks extremely bright for the youngster should he choose to play at Anfield instead of Ibrox.
Dundee United striker Lawrence Shankland is also said to be on the list, alongside Bordeaux striker Josh Maja, Sierre Leone attacker Mohamed Buya Turay and Clermont striker Adrian Grbic, also a transfer target for Celtic. Given the amount of money, Rangers are poised to receive from Morelos’ sale, they will be capable of buying any of the above mentioned players.
Alfredo Morelos has attracted a lot of interest from Premier League clubs, which is arguably the world’s top league in terms of attendance, wages, and popularity. As such, it is going to be nearly impossible to stop the youngster from leaving Ibrox.
Realistically speaking, signing Rhian Brewster would require extremely luring high wages and perks as it may be a step-back in the 20-year-old’s mind. On returning to Liverpool after the expiry of his loan period at Swansea, he is set to play a major role in Liverpool’s game.
Seeing Liverpool’s recent successes and Ranger’s lack of success in the Scottish Premiership might prove to be a deterrent for Brewster while he makes his decision. However, it would also guarantee him immense playing time. The same cannot be said in the case of Liverpool.
The remaining targets on the list are highly likely to accept an offer if they are presented with the opportunity to sign for Rangers. Lawrence Shankland is undoubtedly the next best pick for Rangers. The 24-year-old Scottish forward has netted 24 goals and secured 3 assists in his 26 appearances in the Scottish Premiership alone this season. No doubt, he would like to move to a club that would offer him a better chance at winning the coveted league title or any other silverware.
Rangers FC would largely benefit by selling Alfredo Morelos at the moment, despite his stellar performances and scoring abilities as it would enable them to attract a large sum of money in exchange, considering the amount of interest that has built up for the Colombian player.
They have great potential replacements and are extremely likely to carry on with a good scoring form, despite the gaping hole Steven Gerrard’s side would see upon Morelos’ departure.
