Celtic have made an offer worth just £3million to sign Patrick Roberts from Manchester City on a permanent basis two years on from his temporary loan spell at Parkhead.
Patrick Roberts 23, had previously been on loan at Celtic Park for two and a half seasons winning three Scottish Premiership titles and scoring 18 goals in 78 appearances during his time in Scotland.
Manchester City signed Patrick Roberts for more than £12million from Fulham in 2015 and has since been mostly out on loans to clubs like Celtic, Girona, Norwich City and Middlesbrough, making just three appearances for the Citizens since then.
City have Roberts under contract till 2022 but apparently remain unsure of his future which is something that Celtic look to capitalise on as TEAMtalk report that Celtic have made an offer worth just £3million to sign Patrick Roberts from Manchester City.
The 23-year-old has a lot of top flight experience in him which is something that Celtic could really benefit from and with his injuries constantly deterring him from making a mark in his City career, it could be the ideal time for him to shift to greener pastures that where once his stomping ground.
Having racked up 26 assists along with 18 goals in 78 appearances, Patrick Roberts has had his most influential playing career right here at Parkhead and that is something that Neil Lennon is looking to replicate it seems. According to the report, Manchester City have however rejected the offer for now and want to extend his present deal by another 12 months to see if he establish himself at Manchester.
Given the £12million that they had splurged initially, its unlike that a quarter of that offer would be enough to sway their heads into cutting their losses. Roberts has shown flashes of brilliance in his somewhat stuttering career with his present loan spell at Middlesborough being deemed quite impressive until his unfortunate injury cut short his season.
Irrespective of that his time with the Bhoys had been quite memorable which is why it seems Celtic fans are resoundingly in favour of getting their boy back home. Plus with constant reports circulating about Odsonne Edouard being targeted by Premier League clubs, Celtic’s interest does make sense on multiple levels.
Here is what some of the Celtic fans have had to say on twitter :
Patrick Roberts linked again with Celtic, I literally cannot take this much more… I would have him back in a heartbeat?

@ClydeSSB If the rumours are true that Celtic have approached Man City about taking Patrick Roberts back on a permanent deal at around £3million are true, i would happily have him over Elyanoussi signing another loan or potential deal. Whats the guys thoughts on each player?
