Hibernian FC youngster Josh Doig is in high demand among Premier League clubs this summer. According to reports, London rivals Arsenal and West Ham United are interested in the 19-year-old left-back but have asked the Hibees to lower their asking price before they can make a move on the player.

Meanwhile, Premier League club Watford FC are also keen on the player and were the only club to have entered into serious negotiations for the full-back, but have cooled their interest after signing Danny Rose on a free transfer.
Josh Doig made 35 appearances for the Hibs in all competitions last season while scoring one goal and assisting a further 4 in the process and is valued at £5m plus add-ons. The player had a stunning campaign for the Edinburgh based club last season and won the 2020/21 Scottish Football Writers’ Association Young Player of the Year award.
The 19-year-old’s current contract with Hibernian FC runs till the summer of 2025. The club are willing to entertain offers for the player as long as they receive offers close to their asking price, but Arsenal and West Ham are asking them to lower their valuation to £2.5m if they are to follow up on their interest.
West Ham manager David Moyes wants to add depth to the left-back position while the Gunners boss wants more cover for the left-back role despite signing Nuno Tavares from Benfica. Josh Doig could be the perfect player for both the managers to fulfil their requirements.
The Sporting Director of Hibernian, Graeme Mathie, opened up on their action plan for the summer transfer window. He told Vavel:
“We’re looking at two positions right now, a centre-back and a striker. We have a couple of names in the file, and we’ll give it our best go to look for them,”
When asked about Josh Doig, he said:
“Lots of things need to align so that he can leave. We’ve had lots of conversations with other teams regarding Josh and I genuinely feel that he is really undervalued by other clubs and that annoys me. I would love it if a club were to come to me and say that ‘we think we can turn this boy into a £50million player”.
Meanwhile, Hibernian FC have announced the signing of American winger Chris Mueller. The player will join the Edinburgh side on 1st January after the conclusion of the Major League Soccer. The pace and athleticism of the player attracted the interest of the football scouts at Hibernian.
The Hibees are currently in the midst of their pre-season fixtures and recently beat Arsenal 2-1 in a friendly clash at the Easter Road. They kick-off their Scottish Premiership campaign on August 1 against Motherwell FC.
