Arsenal Interested in Scottish Premiership Star and Former Youth Product

Pre-season fixtures have kicked off in Europe and clubs are in a deep analysis of the players and the requirements for next season. Premier League giants Arsenal have already concluded a couple of businesses this summer, but they are not done. According to the latest reports, Arsenal are planning a raid on the Rangers camp for Glen Kamara.

The Gunners have signed Nuno Tavares and Albert Sambi Lokonga, but the need for another midfield addition takes head coach Mikel Arteta to Glasgow. Rangers star Glen Kamara is the man on Arsenal’s radar in this summer transfer window.

The 25-year-old Finnish midfielder has a past link with the North London side. He spent the final years of his youth career at Hale End before making one senior appearance for Arsene Wenger’s side. He went on two loans while being at Arsenal before signing a two-year contract at Dundee United in 2017. In 2019, he signed a four-and-a-half-year deal at Ibrox and has now become a key player for Steven Gerrard’s side.

He started 28 top-flight games last season as the Rangers went unbeaten in the league, the club have won its first Scottish Premiership title since 2011. Kamara was one of the top contributors to Steven Gerrard’s side. The player also had a great season in Europe, putting up good performances at the Euro 2020 for Finland. He had the highest number of interceptions per game for Finland at the Euro 2020.

Kamara still has two more years in his current contract with Rangers. He was a target for the Gunners in April, but the rumours dissipated. However, Arsenal seem to have reignited their interest in Glen Kamara and might look to sign him if they fail to sign Wolves midfielder Ruben Neves. Moreover, the Finnish international is a more convenient and cheaper option compared to the other players on Arteta’s wishlist.

The Affordable Option For Arsenal

Since the departure of Mesut Ozil, the Gunners have been struggling behind the attacking line. They managed the situation by bringing in temporary options on loan, but they need a permanent solution to their creative problem and Kamara could be that solution.

They are tracking several players who can join the operations in midfield alongside Thomas Partey. Wolves star Ruben Neves is one of the options that are being considered at Arsenal, but, according to the most recent reports, they are running behind and might lose the race for the Portuguese player.

Neves would cost around £30m, while the Rangers star will be more affordable for the Gunners. According to Give Me Sport, Rangers will ask around £10 million for Glen Kamara and this could be a steal deal for Arsenal. However, they are facing competition from several other clubs for the Finnish player, including Premier League rivals Everton and West Ham.
