Former Colombia striker Hugo Rodallega has urged compatriot Alfredo Morelos to quit Rangers and ‘take advantage of’ the situation unravelling at St James Park.
Toon Army owner Mike Ashley looks all set to finally sell off his stake at Newcaslte United to the Saudi Arabian backed consortium of investors led by Amanda Staveley for a reported valuation of £300m.
The implications of that would be a healthy transfer kitty funded by Saudi Arabia’s sovereign wealth fund being awarded to the club to make their mark under their new owners and that is where Alfredo Morelos could come in.
Alfredo Morelos hit 29 goals for Rangers this season before the shutdown hit the Scottish Premiership and has been linked to a move away from the Ibrox stadium over the last season. Nevertheless with Mike Ashley at the helm of affairs in St James Park, any big money move would most likely never materialise because of the Sports Direct link between Rangers and Mike Ashley.
With Amanda Staveley all poised to negotiate another big move takeover by a middle east royal family, those complications would simply evaporate that is something that Alfredo Morelos has been urged to take advantage of by Hugo Rodallega.
Former Fulham and Wigan star Rodallega who was once managed by Steve Bruce when he was incharge of Wigan Athletic FC believes that Alfredo Morelos could be just the ideal player to flourish under Bruce’s stewardship and has urged the Columbian to make the switch to the English Premier League. He said:
“Alfredo is still a young man and he must take advantage of his situation. He is in a great position in his career because he scored many goals and many clubs will want to sign him.
“He has the confidence and ability to play in the English Premier League. He must be clear and tell his current club that he wants to go there.
“He has to leave Scottish football and move to a bigger league. Either England or Spain.
“Alfredo has shown what he can do in Scotland. He’s proved himself there and showed what a good player he is. Now it’s time for him to go to a league that is more demanding.
“If he gets the chance to work with Steve Bruce – someone I know very well – I know he would enjoy that because Bruce is a coach who gives his strikers a lot of confidence.
“That would be perfect for Alfredo.”
While Steven Gerrard will no doubt look to keep a hold of his star striker, a lump sum offer from the newest footballing acquisition of the middle east might prove hard to resist for the Gers.
Moreover the fact seems to be that Rangers fans have fallen out of favour with their Columbian Hitman so far so that a recent report suggested that Rangers had even dropped down their asking price from £25million as previously expected to just £13million in light of the pandemic and subsequent economic situation.
However he is not the only striker in the Scottish Premiership being tipped for a move to the English Premier League, bitter rivals Celtic also have their star striker Odsonne Edouard being tipped for a move abroad with a number of high profile english teams exploring the possibility of placing a sizeable bid for the Celtic hitman.
Quite possible that we could have an entire new set of strikers leading the lines for their respective teams in the next Old Firm derby next season considered this season looks all but certain to go Celtic’s way.
