Rangers Are Preparing a Second Bid to Sign Heerenveen Midfielder Joey Veerman

The Rangers are preparing an improved offer to sign Joey Veerman from SC Heerenveen. The 22-year-old is currently a wanted man for many clubs which has resulted in the club increasing their asking price for the midfielder. The midfielder is also keen on joining the Scottish Premiership champions.

The Gers previously made an offer of around £3.8 million for the Dutch midfielder but Italian club Hellas Verona have tabled a bid of around £5m for the player according to the Dutch newspaper De Telegraph (via the Daily Record).

The Rangers were linked with the player right from the beginning of the transfer window. Steven Gerrard is also said to be an admirer of the Dutchman and would want to land him at Ibrox before the Champions League qualifiers next month.

The talented youngster is reportedly keen to leave Heerenveen this summer. Joey Veerman had 7 goals and 11 assists to his name in the Eredivisie last campaign. A quality player who is good on the ball under pressure and has an eye for goals, he will certainly be welcomed by the Rangers supporters if the club manages to land him at Ibrox.

However, the Eredivisie club could demand almost £10m for the midfielder and this has left him frustrated. Veerman is disappointed about how his transfer is being treated, he finds that the asking price put on his head by the club is unrealistic amid the global pandemic and world economic situation. He spoke to VI (via the Daily Record) about his transfer situation stating:

“I think the Italians have made a very reasonable offer, but when I hear what Heerenveen is asking, it can sometimes be very difficult.”

“Ten to twelve million, I think that’s crazy. After a corona year with empty stadiums, the money is pretty much gone everywhere. Then honestly don’t think this makes any sense.”

SC Heerenveen are trying all they can to notch the player’s price tag upwards. If the Rangers are to sign one player that the fans and supporters will be happy with, it should be Joey Veerman. The talented Dutch midfielder will slot in perfectly with Steven Gerrard’s team at Ibrox.

He certainly has the potential to become a key player for the Rangers. The 22-year-old is very versatile as he can play in the defensive midfield role as well as can change his play into an attacking one. His stats speak for his quality and the fact that Steven Gerrard wants the player makes him the prime target for Gers to get hold of.

The Gers have already signed John Lundstram and Nnamdi Ofoborh to bolster their squad. However, there are doubts over the long-term future of Glen Kamara as he is being linked to some Premier League clubs and Gerrard wants another midfielder to provide cover if the Finnish player decides to move away from Ibrox. Moreover, Nnamdi Ofoborh has been sent to a specialist after a ‘heart issue’ was found by a scan.

The Rangers are preparing an offer worth up to £7 million to bring the Veerman to Ibrox. The Dutch midfielder could well be the most expensive of the window if the Gers can convince the Eredivisie club to sell him.

The transfer situation remains very tricky at Rangers as key players are being linked with a move away from the club, the major ones being Alfredo Morelos being linked with Porto and Glen Kamara to Premier League club West Ham. Rangers will have to keep hold of their key players if they hope to qualify for the Champions League and bring in talented players to retain their league title as well.
