Rangers are set to face a transfer battle with Marseille in their pursuit of Ligue 2 club Nimes’ Zinedine Ferhat. With the conclusion of the European Championship, club football is set to take centre stage once again and clubs will get busy in the transfer market to upgrade their squad. Likewise, the Rangers are setting up a move for Ferhat.
Zinedine Ferhat had an impressive 20/21 season with Nimes, racking up 6 goals and 10 assists in 33 appearances in the French top-flight. With this kind of goal involvement, the attacking midfielder would certainly bolster Rangers’ attacking options, and could dominate the midfield against major oppositions.
According to the report from Le10 Sport (via HITC), Marseille boss Jorge Sampaoli is believed to be a keen admirer of the player and the Ligue 1 club are ready to rival Rangers for his signature. The report claims that Nimes will demand around €5million for Ferhat. The French club also have the advantage of offering him a stay in France.
However, the Scottish Premiership is very competitive and the added bonus of playing under the guidance of Gerrard might lure him to join the Rangers. The biggest obstacle for Rangers would be the transfer fee, but given the talent and quality of the player, the asking price is quite reasonable.

The 28-year old Algerian is in the last 12 months of his current contract which explains the interest of European clubs around the player. The Rangers, despite their impressive midfield, want to add more strength and depth to their squad keeping in mind the upcoming Champions League qualifier as well as to keep up with their arch-rivals, who are making major changes to challenge them for the Scottish Premiership title.
Rangers themselves have the likes of Joe Aribo, Ianis Hagi and Ryan Kent to boss the midfield and they were quite impressive too last season and adding Ferhat will give them more depth in the midfield department. Steven Gerrard is a type of manager who likes his midfielders to be more contributing and proactive, just like Zinedine Ferhat.
Although Rangers have already signed John Lundstram this summer and Nnamdi Ofoborh joined the squad in July after signing a pre-season contract in January, Gerrard still seems adamant to add more quality to his squad to match up against the Champions League playing clubs. Nevertheless, the Rangers would need to offload some players to make space for new signings.
While Rangers are interested in signing Ferhat, other players are also being associated with a move to Ibrox. The likes of Kevin Nisbet, Siriki Dembele, Jack Simpson, Thomas Robert and Joey Veerman are just a few of the players who are being touted to join the Gers.
Nonetheless, Rangers boss Steven Gerrard will have made his demands clear and what he expects in terms of new signings. Moreover, the fans also expect to see an exciting transfer season with new players coming in rather than a stale and passive window and that is what has happened so far with Rangers making some astute bossman moves this summer. Rangers making a move for an exciting talent Zinedine Ferhat would be exactly whats Gers will be hoping to see more of this summer.
