John Lundstram All Set to Control The Rangers Midfield For The Next Three Seasons; Massive Move for The Champions

Steven Gerrard’s Rangers have secured the services of former Sheffield United midfielder John Lundstram on a three year deal. The 27-year-old free agent signed for Gers yesterday making him Ranger’s third bossman signing this summer transfer window. The former Sheffield United player was available as a free agent after this contract expired with the Blades this season and the Premiership Champions added another major talent discussed in the market.

The 27-year-old made 62 appearances for the Blades over two years in the first-tier competition of England. This is the third summer signing of the Rangers after conquering the domestic stage last year. His contract runs till 2024 in Glasgow and is presently valued at around £7m via (Transfermarkt)

Fashion Sakala and Nnamdi Ofoborh were the two major findings of Gerrard early this summer. The 21-year-old central-midfielder joined the Old Firm from AFC Bournemouth on a free transfer. Liverpool-born John Lundstram has been a major interest of the Liverpool legend for a while now and here he what the Rangers manager had to say about his new midfielder.

“John is a player I have known for some time and knew he would enhance our squad. Having played in the Premier League, he has the undoubted quality to enhance our midfield with his technical ability and physicality and I was impressed with his attitude and ambition when we spoke over recent weeks”

The free transfer of the player will no doubt receive huge support from the Rangers faithful in Ibrox as they do not doubt the potential of the player. His immense experience with Sheffield United in the Championship and the Premier League has added more top-line experience for the squad. Lundstram had spent his youth in Everton academy and had a good understanding of EFL through the loan spells which should serve him well ahead of his experience in the Scottish Premiership with Rangers this season.

Although, the right-footed Englishmen can add more creative engagements with the ball in the midfield of Rangers. He is also adaptable to the defensive midfielder role. Steven Gerrard is expanding his team’s ambitions out of just domestic achievements this season and the Champions League action is a major point of concern for them which is where adding a player like Lundstram will pay off.

Meanwhile, Ranger’s Colombian striker, Alfredo Morelos is set to leave Glasgow this summer. The 25-year-old is reportedly on the radar of the Portuguese giants, FC Porto. A bid of around £15 million is reported for the striker in the summer window.  And, the Gers are already on a mission to replace the player with some talented options this summer.

Speaking on his thoughts about the move, here is what Lundstram commented on his new position after completing the deal : 

“The manager is from the same area as me, and I want to learn from those coaches and become a better version of myself and continue to develop under them.

“I spoke with the manager and he sold the club to me, and I was just taken aback by his ambition, vision and drive.

“I know Glasgow is like Liverpool – a proper football city with proper football fans, and I know the people are very similar and I am buzzing to be a part of the atmosphere I am moving into.

The chance to work with Steven Gerrard and Gary McAllister and Michael Beale was a huge draw”,

he continued.

“There is something special still being built here and there is more to come. The pull of being in the Champions League was also massive for me and I want to help the team reach the group stage and make the most of that opportunity” 

Rangers are not done with the transfer market just yet. They have got more players on their transfer list and some more exciting projects on the track for execution this summer according to reports but more on that later.
